ABOUT NHIatSA

The National Hispanic Institute at San Antonio (NHI@SA), formerly the San Antonio Community Leadership Council (SACLC), is a volunteer base of passionate parents, young professionals and NHI alumni who actively and innovatively engage the youth of the community. As we see these demographic shifts that will necessitate more education, more inspiration, more training and leadership, NHI@SA does so by creating supplemental leadership and managerial experiences for very young high school age students, their teachers, and parents and families alike. This is also achieved by having initiatives in middle school, so very young middle and high school age students begin to view themselves as leaders of today.

For over 23 years, NHI@SA has promoted leadership by examining the character, ethics, beliefs and morals of high achieving Latino Youth. We work to engage youth in the global Latino Community, reaching beyond the borders of the mainland United States and into México, Argentina, Panama, and Puerto Rico to name a few. We urge students to begin to view themselves through a different set of social lenses and shift the paradigm by which they view the Latino Community.

Furthermore there is a call for these youth to become crafters of a new tomorrow, as they are already leaders in their own right. Because NHI@SA believes in creating an environment of high standards, we constantly surround the students amongst staff that has been through these leadership experiences and continues to be involved in new and innovative ways. The staff consists of high school students from schools across the city and includes alumni or current students at some of the top institutions in the country such as Stanford University, Yale University, and Rice University, among others. Students who participate in these leadership experiences are equipped with the knowledge and skill sets necessary to succeed in exceptional higher learning environments.
